The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has revealed that innovations introduced by his ministry are aimed at providing seamless services to Nigerians and investors, while maintaining national security.
He made this statement during a meeting with the Governing Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), led by its President, Davidson Alaribe.
Tunji-Ojo acknowledged that there was still room for improvement in the process of acquiring passports but assured that a contactless passport solution would soon be introduced.
“Nigerians will soon be able to renew their passports without physically visiting a passport office,” the Minister disclosed, highlighting the ministry’s commitment to making services more accessible.
The Minister also emphasized the ministry’s willingness to collaborate with ICAN to enhance workforce efficiency and service delivery across its agencies.
“We are ready to work with ICAN to optimize our workforce and ensure better service delivery across the Ministry and its Agencies,” he stated.
In his remarks, ICAN President Davidson Alaribe praised the Minister’s efforts to modernize Nigeria’s passport offices, making the renewal process more seamless.
“The modernization of Nigeria’s Passport Offices has made it easier for citizens to obtain and renew their passports,” Alaribe said, recognizing the positive impact of the reforms.
Alaribe further commended the Minister’s dedication to reforming the Immigration Service, the Civil Defence Corps, and enhancing public sector safety measures, which he said had greatly improved border control and national security.
“The Minister’s leadership in digitization, particularly in e-passport services and visa reforms, has streamlined business operations and strengthened Nigeria’s international relationships,” Alaribe added.
