Oyo State, Nigeria – Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration has dismissed rumors of an anointed candidate for the Alafin Oyo throne, emphasizing a commitment to installing a deserving monarch.
This declaration came during the presentation of the Staff of Office to newly elevated chiefs in Oyo town.
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Olusegun Olayiwola, presented the instruments and staff of office to the new chiefs, urging them to maintain peace in their domains.
The government sought continued support from the people of Oyo, reiterating that no candidate has been favored for the Alafin position.
Former Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, and other stakeholders appreciated the governor’s move to elevate the chiefs to Baale status.
The new chiefs, led by the Elepe of Sheke, thanked the government for the honor and promised to work harmoniously with their local governments to foster unity and peace in their communities.
