The Ogun State House of Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution calling on the State Government to initiate construction or comprehensive repair works on the Kemta-Olokuta-Idi-Aba road.
This vital transportation artery connects the Professor Wole Soyinka Train Station and 52 communities within the Abeokuta South Local Government Area, and its deteriorating condition has significantly impacted local connectivity and commercial activities.
The resolution, sponsored by the Honourable Adeyanju Adegoke, was supported by all members present at the plenary session presided over by the Right Honourable Speaker, Oludaisi Elemide. Honourable Adegoke drew attention to the road’s deplorable state, exacerbated by flooding, which has rendered it largely impassable for vehicles.
He emphasized the concerns expressed by residents and commuters, urging the State Government to take prompt action to address the situation.
Other honourable members, including Damilola Soneye, Odunuga Kaka, Oyedele Adebisi, Adeniran Ademola, and Lukmon Atobatele, supported the motion, stressing the need for the State Government’s intervention to restore the road’s functionality.
They argued that constructing the road would revitalise economic activities, enhance safety, and improve the overall quality of life for residents and adjoining communities.
The Speaker, Right Honourable Oludaisi Elemide, echoed the sentiments of the honourable members, underscoring the importance of responding to the plight of road users, particularly as the rainy season approaches.
He noted that the road’s construction would greatly facilitate human and vehicular movements, thereby enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the area and attracting more tourists to the State.
The resolution, H.R No. 093/OG/2024, respectfully urges the State Government to take immediate action to address the deteriorating condition of the Kemta-Olokuta-Idi-Aba Train Station road, thereby ensuring the well-being and convenience of residents and commuters.
