In a move aimed at significantly improving the welfare of civil servants, the Federal Government has approved a substantial salary increase effective January 1, 2024.
The increase, ranging from 25% to 35%, will benefit employees across six consolidated salary structures.
The affected structures include Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure, Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure, Consolidated Police Salary Structure, Consolidated Para-military Salary Structure, Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure, and Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure.
According to Emmanuel Njoku, Head of Press, National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, the increase also applies to retirees’ pensions under the Defined Benefits Scheme within these structures, rising from 20% to 28%.
This development follows earlier salary increases for sectors like tertiary education and health, including structures such as Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure, Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure, Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure, Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure, Consolidated Medical Salary Structure, and Consolidated Health Sector Salary Structure.
