A devastating inferno has swept through Dosunmu Market, leaving destruction in its wake. Reports indicate that more than ten buildings have been completely razed to the ground in the Idumota area of Lagos.
The fire erupted when a trader attempted to pour petrol into a power generator to illuminate his shop. Unfortunately, the attempt led to a catastrophic blaze that quickly spread to neighboring structures.
Despite the valiant efforts of firefighters, who worked tirelessly to contain the flames, the fire continued to rage on. Ibrahim Farinloye, the coordinator of the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA), revealed that over four buildings have already collapsed under the intense heat and impact of the fire.
The firefighting operation was hindered by the structural design of the market buildings, which are densely packed and high-rise, making access and suppression challenging.
This tragic incident comes just weeks after a similar fire broke out in a building on the same street, highlighting the vulnerability of the area to such disasters.
Authorities are currently assessing the extent of the damage and providing assistance to affected individuals and businesses. As investigations into the cause of the fire continue, efforts to rebuild and restore the community are underway amidst the devastation.
