DSP Bright Edafe, the Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Police Command, has confirmed on Monday the demise of a suspected armed robber during a gun battle with police operatives.

According to a statement released in Benin, Edafe revealed that the action was prompted by complaints of house-to-house robberies in Asaba and other parts of the metro. CP Delta, Abaniwonda Olufemi, issued a stern warning, prompting area commanders and DPOs to intensify efforts against these criminals.

Responding to a distress call about an armed robbery at Marble Hill Junction, operatives from Delta Hawk, in collaboration with Policemen from Opkanam Division, engaged the armed robbers. The criminals opened fire upon sighting the police, leading to a confrontation where one suspect was fatally injured, while the others managed to escape.

The wounded suspect was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

DSP Edafe assured the public that the police would persist in pursuing criminals, aiming to ensure that the residents of Delta can rest with a sense of security.

“Operatives from Delta Hawk in a combined effort with Policemen attached to opkanam Division responded to a distress call about an armed robbery operation at Marble Hill Junction.

“The armed robbers on sighting the police opened fire on the team, the team responded during which one of the suspects was fatally injured while others escaped.
