Leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Ondo State led their members in a peaceful protest against economic hardship in the country.

The demonstrators marched through Alagbaka GRA to deliver their grievances to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa at the Governor’s office.

Comrade Victor Amoko, the Chairman of NLC in Ondo State, voiced concerns over poor government policies and the severe hardships faced by the nation.

Demands included ending hunger and poverty, halting Naira devaluation, supporting local oil production through refinery revamping, addressing insecurity, creating jobs, and rejecting IMF/World Bank policies.

Amoko clarified that the union had no issues with the Ondo State government and expressed optimism that the nationwide messages from protests would reach President Bola Tinubu for timely action.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa acknowledged the challenging situation faced by the people and assured that the state government was aware of their difficulties.

He pledged to convey the union’s protest message to the appropriate authorities.

The governor highlighted proactive steps taken, including clearing outstanding salaries, paying a N35,000 wage award, distributing food palliatives, and providing free transport shuttles to alleviate the impact of harsh economic realities on workers.

Aiyedatiwa also disclosed ongoing efforts to deploy more buses for workers, emphasizing the government’s commitment to their welfare.

Meanwhile, Ondo State Police Commissioner Abayomi Oladipo urged NLC members to maintain a peaceful protest and resist any attempt by fifth columnists to disrupt law and order.

The commissioner assured readiness to handle individuals attempting to cause chaos and promptly deployed officers to strategic areas to prevent any potential hijacking of the protest.
