In a viral video on Tuesday, Yoruba nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, announced his determination to confront and drive out killer herdsmen from Yorubaland.
Addressing a cheering crowd after his mother’s burial in Igboho, Oyo State, Igboho emphasized the need for Yoruba people to unite in liberating themselves from encroaching herders.
Speaking in Yoruba, Igboho expressed skepticism about the ability of the Federal Government and soldiers deployed to Yorubaland, especially in Ekiti, where monarchs were killed in daylight incidents, to effectively combat the alleged killers.
He called for collective security efforts across Yoruba lands to prevent further encroachment.
“We don’t have to wait for the government or anyone. Let’s just work in unison. We cannot farm on our lands because of these herders. And our people are going hungry and angry”.
“We don’t need the soldiers the government claims to have deployed to Ekiti State. We work in accordance with our elders and mount the places ourselves”.
“It was my mother that was my fear before, but now she’s gone, I have nothing to be scared of again. I am now back to take back our land,” Igboho declared.
Dismissing rumors about his involvement with politicians, the Ibadan-based activist questioned the logic of working for politicians while facing threats on his life.
He affirmed his commitment to taking action against marauders jeopardizing the lands of Yoruba people.
