As Ogun State continues to experience early rains, the State House of Assembly has challenged the State Ministry of Environment and the State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) to immediately begin massive sensitization and enforcement programmes to sensitize the residents against indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainages and waterways to prevent flooding.

The Chairman, House Committee on Environment, Haruna Wahab and other members of the Committee including Honourables Adeyemi Ademuyiwa, Olusola Adams and Kunle Sobukanla
threw the challenge in continuation of the ongoing 2023 budget performance assessment for the first quarter at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The lawmakers in their separate remarks sympathized with affected residents on the loss of lives and properties in some parts of the State recently, urging the Ministry to immediately engage necessary stakeholders in the clearing, dredging clogged drainage channels and clearing of water ways where necessary.

They stressed the need for the residents to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainage and waterways, which often resulted in blockage of water channels, thereby resulting in flooding.

Responding, the Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor on Environment, Mr. Farouk Akintunde assured that the team from the Environment Ministry was working round the clock, with the support of all stakeholders towards creating a safe and an environmentally friendly atmosphere for all residents of the State.
