As part of its renewed commitment to ensuring that Lagos and its environs are free from all environmental infractions, the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) has advised Lagosians to ensure that their immediate environment is clean during and after the yuletide season. The Agency also urged residents to obey all public health directives to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

The Corps Marshal of the Agency, CP Gbemisola Akinpelu (retd) spoke recently at the Command Headquarters, Bolade-Oshodi, saying “The yuletide season ushers in a lot of celebrations, as such more waste is generated. We admonish Lagosians to properly dispose their refuse and patronise approved PSP operators in the State”.

Akinpelu also read the riot act to street traders and hawkers to desist from trading on walkways, setbacks, medians and road verges, stressing that LAGESC officers will be strategically positioned across the State to stem the tide of environmental infractions.

Imploring road hawkers to stop displaying wares in traffic to avoid being knocked down by motorists on major highways, the Corps Marshal highlighted the need for pedestrians to make use of pedestrian bridges that are strategically built around major roads in Lagos.

She also advised residents to put safety first and not endanger their lives by crossing the highways, just as she emphasised the need for Lagosians to be security-conscious during the yuletide and report suspicious movements in their vicinity to the appropriate security agencies.

Akinpelu stated that all the Divisional Commanders have been directed to ensure that officers and personnel remain at their various beats through the yuletide season to abate all environmental nuisance.
