Covid-19 Lockdown: Canada-Based Nigerian Politician Splashes N.5million On Abeokuta Residents

A Canadian based Nigerian Citizen and a former aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in the 2019 election, Hon. Bolaji Oloyede Oyesile popularly called BJ has doled out about N500,000 cash to residents of Ogun state so as to cushion the effect of the lockdown over the outbreak of pandemic disease in the state.

The former aspirant who contested for the House of Representatives of Odeda/Abeokuta North/Obafemi Owode federal constituency gave N2,500 to a minimum of 5 persons in each of the 26 wards in two local governments in the state.

Similarly, the cash relief was also extended to vulnerable members of Community Development Associations (CDAs) in the two local government areas.

Oloyede who is currently in Canada doled out the cash to the aged, weak and the poor in the local government of Abeokuta North and Odeda.

Speaking with our correspondent via telephone from Canada on the essence of the gesture, Hon. Oloyede said the love for the people of the state made him gave cash to the downtrodden in his constituency.

He said it became imperative for him to support the government in ensuring the people survive the effect of lockdown.

The former aspirant added that the cash would be for physically challenged and aged who does not have any source of income.

He said, “this is not about politics, but for the love I have for the people in Ogun state. I decided to contribute my little assistance.

“The cash relief is for the weak, the aged. The purpose is to help in cushioning the effects of stay at home order of the federal government in order to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

“This is also to support our amiable governor Prince Dapo Abiodun’s effort on the Distributions of the relief materials. Five people per wards from about 26 ward in my federal constituency would be given this cash.”

The beneficiaries commended the former aspirant for remembering them during the trying time in the country.

A 74-year-old woman, Adebola Bamike said the cash would make her survival during the lockdown period.

She described the former aspirant as a man of the people who is always committed to the welfare of his people.

In her words, “I am really happy for this contribution and I don’t know how to thank BJ for this. BJ is someone that has not forgotten his root, he has been of help to us in this community and this is a gesture we really appreciate. I pray God will continue to bless him.”

Also, a 65-year-old identified as Laolu Adeoye said the cash would cushion the effect of the lockdown on some of them that benefitted from the gesture.

According to him, the donation will be more or less like a succour to some of us who did not even know how we will survive this period.

He added, “This is a commendable thing from BJ, he has really done well despite the fact that he was not the one representing us. He has proven to be a great leader who is concern about the welfare of his people.

“I really appreciate him and I urged others to emulate his good personality and do same for their communities.”
