The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Heli Hassan, in connection with the theft of 95 rail line track components in the state.
The arrest followed a tip-off from the Bauchi Scraps and Wastes Dealers Association, which led to a successful operation by police personnel.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the arrest, explaining that Hassan and his accomplice, Jacob Sulaiman, conspired to steal the rail tracks. While Hassan has been taken into custody, Sulaiman remains at large.
“The case has been meticulously documented for a thorough investigation, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend Jacob Sulaiman, who is still on the run,” the statement read.
Wakil called on the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activities that may assist in the ongoing investigation. “We urge citizens to be vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement to ensure that individuals involved in criminal activities are brought to justice,” he added.
The investigation is expected to continue, with law enforcement agencies working to apprehend the second suspect and recover any additional stolen materials.
