The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, will preside over the swearing-in ceremony of 87 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) on Monday, September 30.

This event marks a significant moment, as it will be Justice Kekere-Ekun’s first official duty in her capacity as the CJN since her confirmation by the Senate on September 25.

The Director of Information for the Supreme Court, Dr. Festus Akande, disclosed in a statement on Thursday that the ceremony will take place in the main courtroom of the Supreme Court in Abuja, commencing the 2024/2025 legal year.

“The swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed Senior Advocates of Nigeria will begin at 10:00am, in the Supreme Court’s main courtroom,” Dr. Akande announced, adding that it would be a prominent event that involves key stakeholders in Nigeria’s legal community.

Justice Kekere-Ekun, recently appointed as the Chief Justice, will oversee the swearing-in of these distinguished legal professionals, who have been recognized for their exceptional contributions to the legal profession.

The ceremony also signals the official commencement of the Supreme Court’s new legal year, following its resumption of activities on September 23 after its annual vacation, which began on July 22.

With this ceremony, the legal community prepares to kick off the 2024/2025 judicial year, solidifying the status of the SANs in the legal hierarchy, as they take on new roles in their respective fields.
