Former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has on Monday openly identified with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, Biyi Otegbeye, as his candidate in 2023 poll.
But, Amosun was quick to add that he is supporting the APC presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He spoke on Monday during an exclusive interview with BBC Yoruba.
“I dont hide behind one finger to fight. Biyi Otegbeye is the person I am supporting and ADC is the party.”
“For the presidential poll, I can assure you, both right, left and centre, we are supporting one person (Tinubu),” he said.
Amosun had also vowed that Governor Dapo Abiodun “must be removed from office” in 2023 because he was “rigged” into the office ab initio.
Amosun stated that the 2019 governorship election in the state was rigged to favour the incumbent governor.
He added that he had moved on because those who were behind the rigging have apologized to him.
“During the last election, thank God, Chief Osoba is here, I have said it, we won convincingly. They rigged, rigged, and ended up with 19,000 votes.
“Some of them came to apologise to me. I can’t be mentioning names. We won that election. But I have moved on,” Amosun said.
Abiodun, however, denied the allegations, saying he would not be distracted by any person who has a problem with self-delusion, as “Ogun State is not anybody’s father’s inheritance”.
It was gathered that Amosun had zeroed in on Otegbeye after he fell out with Adekunle Akinlade who contested against Abiodun, in 2019, on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Amosun, now Senator representing Ogun Central, had backed Akinlade against Abiodun who ran under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In the polls’ result, Abiodun polled 241,670 votes to defeat Akinlade who had 222,153 votes.
And in the build-up to the 2023 polls, both Otegbeye and Akinlade contested in the APC governorship primary, but lost to Abiodun.
