Governor of the state of Osun, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola has reinstated the commitment of his administration to end violence against women and the girl child in line with the provisions of the law and wishes of the virtuous people.

He made this disclosure after leading a procession in commemoration of this year’s international day for the elimination of violence against women at Nelson Mandela Freedom Park, Oshogbo.

Governor Gboyega Oyetola who was represented by his Deputy, Mr. Benedict Alabi led the procession to celebrate the international day for the elimination of violence against women and girl child organized by the state government in collaboration with CDS National Youth Service Advocacy Group.

The Governor described violence against women and girl child as intolerance and unacceptable behavior which attracts an option of fine, imprisonment, or other various degree of punishment if the offender is found guilty in a court of law.

He warned perpetrators of such dastardly acts to desist from their evil deeds saying the law to that effect has been enacted. The Governor also advised that those with such heinous acts should not have the mindset of escaping its wrath of the law.

“I assure women and girl child in the state of Osun adequate protection against violence.” ~ Gov. Oyetola concluded.

In her own address, the commissioner for Women, Children, and Social Affairs, Barr. Olubukola Olaboopo described the participation of the State government in the programme as a signal to the world to end violence against women and girl child as well as giving voice to the voiceless.

Present at the occasion was the Secretary to the State government of Osun, Prince Wole Oyebamiji, the head of Service, Dr. Olowogboyega Oyabade, and other state executive cabinet members.
