200-LEVEL STUDENT KILLED DURING INITIATION INTO AIYE CONFRATERNITY IN ONDO

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a 21-year-old undergraduate of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, AAUA, Ondo State.

Our correspondent gathered that the deceased identified as Daniel Paul Oluwatosin, a 200 level student of the institution’s Philosophy Department, was allegedly killed by suspected cultists during initiation process into “aiye” confraternity.

Three suspects, who were linked to the killing of the deceased, have subsequently been arrested by the police.

The suspected cultists nabbed included Ifedayo Oluwaseun 19; Nafiu Akani David, 22 and Ajibola Philips aged 22.

According to the state Commissioner of Police, Undie Adie, “On the May 20, 2019 at about 1300hrs, one Kabiru Rasak ‘M’ of Achiever University Road Idase, Owo came to the station and reported that his cousin one Daniel Paul ‘m’, aged 21yrs, who was a student of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko, was murdered by unknown person(s).

“On the strength of this information, detectives from the Special Anti-Cultism Squad Akure swung into action and made the arrest.

“Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to be members of ‘aiye’ secret cult confraternity; they also stated that on 20/4/2019 at about 4a.m., they took the deceased to the bush at Akungba Akoko town where he was murdered during initiation.

“The suspects mentioned other members of the group who are still at large.”

The police boss added that investigation was still ongoing towards apprehending all other involved in the heinous crime, after which they will be charged to court for prosecution.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun has set up a six-man investigation panel on the incident.

The VC through a memo signed by the institution’s Acting Registrar, Opeoluwa Akinfemiwa stated that the panel should submit its report within three weeks.
