Youth Engagement Key to National Security, Says IGP

Abuja – The Nigeria Police Force, led by Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, today hosted the Nigeria Police Youth Summit at the Police Resource Centre in Abuja, commemorating the UN International Youth Day.

The event aimed to engage youth in national security efforts, promote their contributions, and address challenges facing the nation.

The summit was attended by high-profile dignitaries, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim. Other notable attendees included the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, represented by Maj. Gen PP Malla; the Honourable Minister of Police Affairs, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Police Affairs, Mr. James Sule; and the Chairman Police Service Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd).

The event featured a keynote address by Prof. Lanre Fagbohun, who emphasized the importance of youth inclusivity in key areas of national security, reward systems for youth development, and sponsorship programs to encourage youths and promote national growth.

A panel discussion followed, providing an avenue for youth leaders and representatives to seek clarifications and understanding of vital issues and solutions to several challenges facing the country.

In his address, President Tinubu recognized the vital role of youths in shaping the nation’s future and reaffirmed his commitment to empowering them. He promised to build a generation of leaders, thinkers, and change-makers who will shape the future of the nation and the world.

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun reiterated his belief in Nigerian youths and their vital role in achieving national security and sustainable development. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the police force and the youth in addressing national challenges.

The summit’s insights and ideas will contribute to enhancing national security intelligence and promoting youth development.

The Federal Government and Nigeria Police Force remain committed to supporting and empowering the youth to reach their full potential.”
