Prospective Corps Members of the 2021 batch ‘C’ Stream II Orientation Course in Lagos State have been told by the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, to shun criminal activities and to not put themselves in harm’s way as their parents await them to benefit from their long years of investment in them.
He said this during his visit to the NYSC Lagos Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja, this evening.
Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim told the corps to take the instructions embedded in the address, urging them to make use of the NYSC platform to attain great heights. According to the NYSC boss, ‘you all have potentials and some of you will be great in life but the road to get there is not easy, you need to show commitment and be diligent. Obey instructions, do not give your parents hypertension, do not give us hypertension.’
On the use of the Social media, the Director-General said, ‘be careful of the Social media use, do not use it to promote disintegration, hatred and blackmail. Use it to promote national unity and to improve yourself.’
Also, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim has warned the Prospective Corps Members on the use of illicit drugs, he urged them to be disciplined and be patriotic towards the nation especially during the service year.
Meanwhile, the Director-General while fielding questions from the Press, has responded to questions bordering on security of corps members and the scrapping of the scheme.
When asked if the scheme should be scrapped because many see it as outdated, the Director-General said ‘all of you here are ex-corps members, anyone who says the scheme should be scrapped does not know the scheme and have not added value to it when they served. Those who added value to the scheme will not say that.’
On the security of corps members, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim said ‘the issue of security and what we are doing concerning our corps members cannot be discussed with the Press. What I can tell you is that if our corps members continue to follow our briefings and the instructions given to them, they will only have limited challenges.’
Present with the Director-General in Lagos State is the Director, Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED), Mr Hillary Nasamu and the Acting Director, Special Duties, Alhaji Musa Abubakar.
