Dr. Chris Omotosho, Head of the Department of Theatre Arts at the Federal College of Education, Osiele, Abeokuta, has been elected as the pioneer President of the South West Authors Forum (SWAF).
This announcement follows a three-day conference held at the ASUSS Secretariat in Abeokuta, where a cohort of distinguished individuals were elected to the SWAF executive board.
Dr. Omotosho, accompanied by newly elected executives, including Dr. Sola Balogun as Vice President, Ms. Brenda Nwafor as General Secretary, and Ms. Funke Awodiya as Assistant Secretary, among others, expressed gratitude for the trust placed in the new leadership. He pledged to elevate service and uphold the principles of integrity.
During the conference’s opening ceremony, the Chairman of the occasion, Olowu of Owu, Oba Professor Saka Matemilola, emphasized the importance of writers engaging in political discourse and nation-building efforts.
He urged writers to transcend narrow interests and uphold moral values in their literary works.
The keynote address, delivered by Dr. Patricia Ezenandu, focused on “Fostering National Unity Through Creativity.” Dr. Ezenandu advocated for the use of indigenous languages in literature to promote national cohesion and urged writers to avoid stereotypes and embrace inclusive portrayals.
Special recognition awards were presented to distinguished individuals, including the Olowu of Owu and the late Dr. Solomon Iguanre’s wife, in acknowledgment of their contributions to literature and society.
