The womenfolk has been described as a critical segment of the populace and as such remains a major agent of positive change in the society thereby creating socio-economic and political values to the political sphere of the State and nation at large. Hence the need to continually support them towards achieving self- dependence.

The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, who stated this today while receiving the State Chapter of League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOWW) led by Oluyemisi Egbeyemi on a courtesy visit on the Assembly at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, posited that their numerical strength in the society was a major advantage through unity of purpose for fellow women with required capacity and capability during electioneering period to occupy political offices.

Admonishing them to change the old narrative in politics, the Speaker charged them to embark on more sensitization and orientation programmes geared towards educating the society particularly women of voting age to be more interested in engaging their male counterparts during electioneering, this according to him would bring about more empowerment programmes to the grassroots.

Earlier in her presentation, Egbeyemi stated that the league with the mission to empower voters and defend democracy, believed in the power of women to create a more perfect democracy, with a view to enlightening them on their civic rights and duties within the context of the nation.

She added that the league which consisted of traders and professionals would step up plans towards ensuring full and equal political participation in the State and the nation at large.

The Speaker also played host to the State Chapter of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Youth Ambassadors, led by Oludaisi Afolabi challenging them to be more proactive in their quest to contribute their quota to societal development, just at the National Association Of Ogun State Students, Federal University of Technology, Akure chapter led by Fashola Emmanuel lauded the existing harmonious relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government which he noted had brought about more development initiatives to the gateway State.
