The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of an unidentified young woman at a hotel in the Dopemu area of the state.
The tragic incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Friday, according to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the command.
In a statement to journalists on Sunday, Mr. Hundeyin explained that the hotel manager alerted the Dopemu Police Division after a man had checked in with the woman for a short rest.
“The manager of the hotel reported that a man walked into the hotel with a lady to have a short rest. However, the identities of both individuals were not recorded by the hotel,” he stated.
According to the report, an hour later, the woman hurriedly left the room, complaining of feeling unusually hot. The hotel staff offered her cold water in an attempt to relieve her symptoms, but her condition failed to improve.
“She was later rushed to a nearby hospital on Dopemu Road, where she unfortunately passed away. Meanwhile, the man who accompanied her fled the scene,” Mr. Hundeyin added.
The hotel manager has since been taken into police custody to assist with the investigation, while the woman’s body has been transferred to the Lagos Mainland General Hospital mortuary.
Mr. Hundeyin also noted that the police are working to uncover the cause of the woman’s death, as well as identify her and apprehend the man who disappeared.
