The leadership of the Amalgamated Union of Food and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria (AUFCDN) has given the Federal Government till Wednesday, February 24, to address their demands or face total withdrawal of services nationwide.

The union, which is an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and has over 35 affiliate groups, said it had submitted a notice of its impending action to the Federal Government and security agencies on February 18.

Addressing reporters yesterday in Abuja, AUFCDN Secretary General Ahmed Alarama said the union was worried about the incessant attacks on its members and properties in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The union leader alluded to the recent violence in Shasha community in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, where he alleged that some AUFCDN members were killed and their properties destroyed.

He said the union was asking the Federal Government to broker a parley between state governments and AUFCDN.

Alarama threatened “that henceforth, if any violence of any nature erupts in that state and our members are attacked, we will not hesitate to immediately withdraw our services”.
