Suspected bandits have abducted the village head of Ungwan Babangida and 14 other individuals in Kauru Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State during a violent attack late Thursday night.
The heavily armed assailants reportedly stormed the community at midnight, firing sporadically to instill fear before seizing their victims. Those abducted include three women, nine men, and two laborers from Jigawa State and Ikara LGA, who had come to the area for farming activities.
Confirming the incident, a youth leader from Dokan Karji, Aminu Khalid, described the attack as well-coordinated, saying the bandits strategically positioned themselves to prevent resistance. “They came in the dead of night and took their victims without much challenge,” he said.
This attack comes barely 48 hours after another incident in Libere community, also in Kauru LGA, where four farmers were kidnapped.
Khalid decried the rising wave of insecurity in the region, calling for urgent military intervention to combat the bandits. He lamented, “Kauru communities need serious military action against these bandits. The Federal Government and security operatives must intensify efforts to cripple the activities of these criminals who have made life unbearable for villagers.”
He also highlighted the toll the crisis has taken on the area, stating that many breadwinners had been killed while several villages remained under bandit occupation. However, he commended local vigilantes for their proactive measures, noting their success in thwarting several kidnapping attempts in nearby villages.
Efforts to reach the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Mansir Hassan, for comments were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
The escalating banditry in Kauru LGA has heightened fears among residents, with calls for intensified government and security interventions to restore peace and stability in the affected communities.
