US To Return $954,000 Alamieyeseigha Loot

The governments of the United States of America (USA) and Nigeria have signed an agreement to return $954,000 allegedly stolen by a former Governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha.

The agreement was signed on Thursday in Abuja by the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Leonard, while the Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Beatrice Jedy-Agba, who represented Nigeria for the signing.

According to the US Ambassador to Nigeria, the official salary of the former Governor during his tenure as a public servant from 1999 to his impeachment in 2005 did not match the said amount.

It was however found that he accumulated millions of Dollars through abuse of office, money laundering.

Meanwhile, President Buhari has directed that the said sum be utilised in developing the healthcare of Bayelsa.
