Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has insisted on a thorough investigation into controversial reports linking Jigawa index case to Enugu state.
The governor is not leaving anything to chance in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
Initial reports in some sections of the media claimed that the Jigawa index had a travel history with Enugu.
But the report was later debunked by both the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and Kano state Ministry of Health.
The governor who has been on his toes since two cases were confirmed positive in the state has vowed not to relent and ordered a thorough investigation regarding the report until total success is achieved.
According to the report, “going by the facts and measures in place in the fight against COVID-19 and records by both the NCDC and the kano State Health Ministry the index case in Jigawa State does not have any link of travel with Enugu state as being falsely claimed.
“Let it be known that the reported index case who is an indigene of Jigawa State was intercepted at the Kano State border by her health workers quarantined and tested positive before being transferred to his home state jigawa and never had a travel history to Enugu state in the recent.
“Indeed the post clearly stated he is an indigene of the state. It is unfortunate how Enugu State is being mentioned.”
But Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has refused to let the claims go unattended to insisting that the situation is such that the state cannot afford to relax.
He has therefore directed the state Ministry of health and the COVID-19 team in the state to follow up on the allegation.
Enugu State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ik E. Obi who confirmed this in a statement issued in Enugu said; “the report of a confirmed case of COVID-19 in Jigawa State, with alleged travel history from Enugu State is currently being actively investigated.”
