A devastating attack on the Briun community in Bou-Ko kingdom, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, has left two residents dead.
The incident occurred on Tuesday night at approximately 8 pm, when unknown gunmen opened fire, striking fear into the hearts of residents.
Many residents who heard the gunfire remained indoors, while others fled the community in panic. The motive behind the attack is still unknown, leaving residents wondering about the assailants’ intentions.
Bright Nwiyorde, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Ken Saro-Wiwa Surveillance Group, and a resident of the area, condemned the attack and called for a thorough investigation.
He urged the government, police, and local authorities to work together to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Nwiyorde stated, “We need a thorough investigation to ensure those responsible face the law. We also need improved security measures to prevent such incidents from happening again.”
The State Police Command spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, acknowledged that she had not received a report of the incident but promised to investigate and provide an update.
The attack has raised concerns about the security situation in the region, with many calling for increased measures to protect residents and prevent future attacks.
