The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed a tragic accident on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway that claimed two lives early Saturday.
The crash, which occurred around 7:10 a.m. near the Mammy Market Barracks, involved a Toyota commercial bus and a Bajaj motorcycle.
According to Williams Manga, the FRSC Unit Commander, FRSC personnel were on the scene within minutes of the crash at 7:15 a.m.
“The Toyota commercial bus, registered as MHY 165 YH, collided with a Bajaj motorcycle with registration number LAAR 313 VP coming from Badagry,” he stated.
Manga further explained that “the two persons on the motorcycle died instantly, while one passenger in the front seat of the bus sustained injuries. Thankfully, another passenger was unharmed.”
Manga attributed the accident to excessive speeding, a recurring issue on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. The injured individual was transported to Badagry General Hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to the hospital’s morgue.
Emphasizing the importance of road safety, the Unit Commander urged drivers to maintain safe speeds, especially on the one-lane section of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
He noted that FRSC has frequently held sensitization programs along the Agbara-Badagry route, encouraging motorists to reduce speed.
“This isn’t the first incident,” Manga cautioned. “The command has repeatedly warned drivers about the hazards of excessive speeding, yet some continue to ignore these warnings. I urge all motorists to follow speed limits and carry out regular vehicle inspections to prevent such tragic accidents.”
