In its endeavour to ensure a crash and accident free transit period as the Ember Months begins, the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, TRACE, has commenced it’s Ember Months Advocacy Drive with the theme: Stay Safe, Drive Safely and Be Protected.
According to a release from the office of the TRACE Corps Commander/Chief Executive, Cdr. ‘Seni Ogunyemi, the year 2020 Ember Months Sensitization Drive is unique in a way due to the onset of the Corona Virus Pandemic, which has further challenged us all as road users on the need to stay safe by driving responsibly during this period, so as to be protected.
In this regard, TRACE Corps would employ and ensure that all Covid 19 protocols as well as guidelines are observed and respected in its Ember Months Advocacy Drive throughout the state on the roads, in schools, religious institutions, markets, parks and garages, where the direct-contact means of sensitization would be employed to help flatten the curve of the Covid19 Pandemic and in addition promote safe and responsible motoring during and after the Ember Months period.
TRACE Corps implore the general public, particularly the motoring public that there is nothing mystical about the Ember Months, rather it is our attitude and lack of planning before setting out on a journey with the unfortunate resultant effect claiming lives and property, especially in this length of time and season when there is an increase in vehicular and human traffic.
Moreover, motorists are advised to manage their health properly by ensuring they are mentally, psychologically, physically and emotionally balanced before embarking on any journey because safety and responsibility begins from there.
Moreover, motorists should ensure proper maintenance of their vehicles and avoid night travels as well as journeys that are not important. Instead, pool and ride method should be employed as well as other means of transportation, so as to reduce the pressure on the road during this period.
Finally, TRACE Corps solicits for the support, cooperation and understanding of the general public, especially the motoring public, in its Advocacy Drive for the year 2020 Ember Months season in order to avoid road traffic crashes and accidents, which is neither mystical in nature normore prevalent during this season but rather caused by our attitude, greed and selfishness, in addition to lack of respect for simple traffic rules and regulations.
