President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerian university graduates to embrace patriotism and resist the temptation to seek opportunities abroad, emphasizing that Nigeria holds the potential to create opportunities that are as abundant—if not more—than those available in other countries.
Speaking at the 29th and 30th combined convocation ceremony of the University of Uyo, held at the institution’s permanent site on Nwanniba Road, Tinubu acknowledged the challenges currently facing the nation but assured that his administration is working to alleviate these difficulties, particularly for vulnerable Nigerians.
The President, represented by Professor Owunari Georgewill, Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, urged the graduates to become agents of change.
He encouraged them to apply their knowledge and skills in addressing societal issues and contributing to the progress and development of both Nigeria and the world.
“As you enter the world, I urge you to be agents of change. Use your knowledge and skills to uplift our society and contribute to the growth and development of Nigeria and the world at large,” Tinubu stated.
He also expressed concern that, despite the growth in the number of educational institutions, many research findings remain unpublished and underutilized, collecting dust on the shelves of their authors instead of benefiting society.
