Tinubu Seeks Senate Approval For N24.6bn Promissory Note Of Refunds

The Nigerian Senate has received a letter from President Bola Tinubu requesting approval for the federal government’s takeover of two state airports and refund of N24.6 billion to the states.

The President’s letter was read on the floor of the Senate by President of the Senate, Godswil Akpabio on Wednesday.

The promissory note is to reimburse Lafia Cargo Airport , Nasarawa State (N9.5 billion) and Kebbi State International Airport (N15.1 billion).

The takeover, approved in July 2022 by the previous administration, includes the Lafia Cargo Airport and Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport in Birnin-Kebbi.

The Upper Chamber however referred the request to its committee on Local and Foreign Debts, which is expected to review and report back to the Senate .
