President Xi Jinping has expressed his readiness to work closely with President Bola Tinubu to enhance the China-Nigeria diplomatic friendship and advance China-Africa cooperation.
The two leaders met at the Great Hall in Beijing, where Tinubu was on a state visit at Xi’s invitation, ahead of the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) summit.
Xi highlighted the mutual understanding and win-win cooperation between China and Nigeria over the past half-century, proposing an elevation of bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
He emphasized the upcoming FOCAC summit as an opportunity to advance China-Africa relations.
Tinubu expressed gratitude for the invitation, acknowledging the long-standing China-Nigeria relations and potential for strengthened trade and economic development.
The meeting resulted in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on various projects, including Belt and Road Initiative, news exchange cooperation, and television cooperation.
President Tinubu was accompanied by a delegation, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar, Sen. Uba Sani, Governor of Kaduna, and Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq of Kwara.
