President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday applauded the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) for the successful rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt Refinery, describing it as a significant milestone for the nation.

The President also directed NNPC to hasten the reactivation of the second Port Harcourt refinery alongside the Warri and Kaduna refineries to bolster Nigeria’s refining capacity and reduce reliance on imported fuel.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu emphasized the importance of ongoing refinery rehabilitation efforts. The statement, titled “President Tinubu Celebrates the Revival of Port Harcourt Refinery and Directs NNPC Limited to Promptly Reactivate Warri and Kaduna Refineries,” outlined the administration’s energy priorities.

According to Onanuga, “The President acknowledges the pivotal role of former President Muhammadu Buhari in initiating the comprehensive rehabilitation of all our refineries and expresses gratitude to the African Export-Import Bank for its confidence in financing this critical project.”

The President also commended NNPC’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, for his leadership in overcoming obstacles to achieve this success. Onanuga added, “President Tinubu commends the leadership of NNPC Limited’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mele Kyari, whose unwavering dedication and commitment were instrumental in overcoming challenges to achieve this milestone.”

Highlighting the need for continuity, Tinubu tasked the NNPC with fast-tracking work on the second Port Harcourt refinery and the Warri and Kaduna facilities. “With the successful revival of the Port Harcourt refinery, President Tinubu urges NNPC Limited to expedite the scheduled reactivation of both the second Port Harcourt refinery and the Warri and Kaduna refineries,” the statement concluded.
