A Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Tuesday ordered the remand of a 27-year-old tiler, Qudus Kazeem, at the Ikoyi Correctional Center over allegations of raping his employer’s wife, issuing threats, and obtaining money under false pretenses.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Sanusi Adagun, directed that the case file be duplicated and forwarded to the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice. The case was adjourned to December 18 for further mention.

Details of the Alleged Crime

According to the prosecutor, Inspector Reuben Solomon, the defendant committed the alleged crimes in December 2022 at No. 8/10 Kola John Street, off Feyintola Giwa Street, Surulere, Lagos.

Solomon narrated that Kazeem, hired to lay tiles in the home of Mr. Damilare Gbadamosi, abandoned his task and forcibly had unlawful sexual intercourse with his employer’s wife.

The prosecutor further alleged that the defendant later threatened the victim, demanding money and additional sexual encounters. “He threatened to destroy her marriage if she refused to send him money or engage in further sexual relations with him,” Solomon said.

Legal Implications

The charges brought against Kazeem include unlawful sexual intercourse, threat to life, obtaining money under false pretenses, and stealing. Solomon stated that the offences contravened Sections 56 (1)(a), 260, 280, and 314 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Magistrate Adagun emphasized that the court would await the DPP’s advice before further action.
