Related Incident:
In a separate incident, officers from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) successfully intervened to prevent a 59-year-old man from jumping into the lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge. The man, identified only as Yemi, resides in the Ilasa area of Lagos and reportedly attempted suicide due to overwhelming challenges in his life.
The RRS bike patrol team, on routine patrol at about 1200hrs on Friday, managed to stop the man before he could carry out his attempt. Commander of the RRS, CSP Shola Jejeloye, has since provided counsel to Yemi and directed that he be placed in protective custody until his family members arrive.
This incident marks the latest in a series of attempted suicides in Lagos. In a previous case less than two weeks ago, the RRS rescued a 65-year-old visually impaired man, Ewenla Ibrahim Adetomiwa, along with his two children, aged 16 and 12, from attempting suicide on the same bridge.
The Lagos State Police Command continues its efforts to maintain safety and respond to distress calls in the city, whether related to crime or other emergencies.
