The Executive Governor State of Osun, His Excellency, Mr Gboyega Oyetola has urged the 2019 Batch B stream 2 Corps members deployed to the state of Osun to see the Oath of Allegiance as a commitment to national Ideals and new beginnings, adding that corps members are the greatest asset of the nation.
Oyetola made the statement at the swearing in and official opening ceremony of the 2019 Batch B stream 2 orientation course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede on Thursday 22nd August, 2019.
Oyetola, who was ably represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji, advised the 1800 corps members who comprised of 1037 males and 763 females to see themselves as the leading light for the present and future generations. On this note, he said “I therefore urge you to see yourself as the leading light for the present and future generations as your mobilization affords you the privilege to be a blessing to the nation by imparting the lives of the people of your immediate environment” “Your mobilization further affords you the opportunity to familiarize yourselves with cultures and people you have never met prior to your mobilization” he stated.
Oyetola speaking further, stressed that corps members should complement the gestures of NYSC and the government by being good ambassadors and advocates of peaceful coexistence in their host communities. He charged them to channel all energy, vigour and drive towards self realization and relevance in the economic revamping of the nation.
“Abstain from vices such as drug abuse, advance fee fraud, kidnapping, robbery, cultism, violence and crimes as these undermines and hinders you from being a ray of hope for your generation and the nation” he said.
The State NYSC Coordinator, Mr Ayodele Adegoke, earlier in his address at the swearing in ceremony informed corps members of the benefits of the scheme, saying ” The scheme is not only interested in what you can give to the society in terms of selfless service but also in what you become hereafter”
Having stated this, Adegoke said that the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development program (SAED) is an initiative aimed at empowering corps members during their service year in order to make them self reliant and job creators.
He further admonished the corps members to be good ambassadors of the scheme by ensuring that they abide by every laid down rules and regulations spelt out in the NYSC Bye-Laws.
Meanwhile, Acting Chairman, NYSC State Governing Board and Coordinating Director, Ministry of Empowerment and Youth Engagement, Dr. Olatunbosun Awoyemi assured corps members that the NYSC State Governing Board, upon the arrival of prospective corps members, has worked towards ensuring a hitch-free and memorable orientation course and service year for them by creating a conducive and enabling environment right from the orientation camp. Awoyemi further advised the corps members to be of good behavior as the scheme has a system of rewarding outstanding corps members as well as sanctions those who contravene the bye-laws.
To officially swear in corps members, the oath of allegiance was administered by the Chief Judge of Osun, Honourable Justice Oyebola Adepele Ojo who was represented by Hon. Justice Jacob Olurotimi Ogunleye.
At the end of the ceremony, guests and corps members were thrilled to beautiful dance steps by the NYSC cultural troupe.
