“Terrorists Or Separatists: The Regurgitations of Tension in any Democratic State” – Kunle Alaye

Reading time: 1 Minute

A “Terrorists Group” with no iota of euphemism, can be best contextualized as “any group of people whose focus, is strictly to attack a sitting government, disrupt peace, create tension and bring a country to a state of anarchy without necessarily taking over the supposed Government”.

Sequel to the above, can we by objective standard, justify the spate of gruesome killings, unwanting destroction of public properties, distruption of academic activities and collateral damage of economy, caused by the Monday Sit-At-Home-Order by IPOB, as a more sophisticated channel to promote justice? Or can we say the approach explore by the separatists, devoid of Terrorists’ Paradigm?

Indeed let us call a spade a spade, there are better approaches any Southern States can devise without resorting to the vulgar or vacuous strategies which are peculiar to the Terrorists. All these definitely do more of havoc to us than good.

I want to sincerely admonish all the republic agitators, especially the IPOB, to have a rethink and fashion out a more sophisticated and civil approach other than violence and laborious approaches. Anyone, who distrupt the peace of a country by attacking a democratically elected government would be best described as terrorists.

Much as I am not an appologist of Buhari’s administration, I will not equally encourage any Nigerian to destroy Nigeria. The country is more than anybody, including Buhari himself. So why destroying our legacies and killing ourselves?

Since the inception of the Fourth Republic in 1999, Nigeria has been governed by four successive governments. Buhari is just the Fourth President of the Fourth Republic and obviously he will leave, come 2023 but the country call Nigeria remains.

Kindly let us be more civil with our approach, if we truly decry, being addressed as “terrorists”.

Kunle Alaye.
