TASUED Suspends Exams After Cult Attack Kills Final – Year Student

Ijagun – Tragedy struck Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) on Wednesday afternoon when a 400-level student, Fabiyi Hammed Ayinla, was brutally attacked and killed by suspected secret cult members on campus.

The incident occurred at about 2 pm when yet-to-be-identified assailants attacked Fabiyi, a student of History and Diplomatic Studies, leaving him gravely injured. School security personnel rushed to the scene and rescued him from his attackers, but he succumbed to his injuries hours later while being prepared for transfer to Babcock University Teaching Hospital (BUTH) Ilisan.

In response to the tragic incident, the university management has suspended ongoing semester examinations until further notice.

The attack has sparked outrage and fear among students and faculty members, with many calling for improved security measures to curb the menace of cultism on campus.

Meanwhile, the police have launched an investigation into the incident, promising to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Fabiyi’s death has sent shockwaves through the university community, with many mourning the loss of a promising young life cut short by senseless violence.

The University Public Relations Officer, Odubela Ayotunde, in a statement on Thursday said the varsity elected to suspend indefinitely, the ongoing
examinations for Thursday, 4th, and Friday, 5th July 2024, because of Fabiyi’s death.

Ayotunde added that the University has reported the incident to the Police for necessary actions, while a few arrests have also been made.

He stated, “Following the attempted abduction, attack and death of a 400 level Student on the main campus, Ijagun on Wednesday 3rd, July 2024, the University Management wishes to inform Parents, Guardians and the General Public of the information at the disposal of the University as regards the incident as follows;

“The University Management received reports of an attack on a student at the back of the CENVOS building on Wednesday, 3rd July 2024, by some yet-to-be-identified persons believed to be members of Secret Cult

” An examination just ended with 400 level Students celebrating the usual ‘logging out’ in front of the lecture theatre when some unidentified persons carried the said victim identified as Fabiyi Hammed Ayinla of the History and Diplomatic Studies Department, College of Humanities. He was eventually attacked

“Fabiyi’s colleagues assumed that the said persons were celebrating with him as it was also his birthday.

“Suspicion arose when he later attempted to resist being carried away. Thus, they started dragging him towards the University CENVOS building. The security personnel on the ground immediately alerted the security unit, who responded immediately.

“On sighting the security operatives, the assailants took to their heels and escaped through the bush at the back of CENVOS. The victim was rescued alive, severely injured and bleeding profusely. He was moved to the University Health Centre, from where he was referred to the General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, for further treatment. At the General Hospital, the victim was thereafter referred to the Backock University Teaching Hospital due to the severity of the injuries he sustained on the head.

” Fabiyi was reported to have been confirmed dead while being moved to Babcock for further treatment.

“The university wishes to put it on record that there was no gunshot at the scene of the incident or anywhere on the campus.

“Fabiyi was not abducted from the examination hall as he was not participating in the 300-level examination, HIS 329( Modern European Political Thoughts) going on in the examination hall.

“Examinations for Thursday,4th, and Friday,5th July 2024, have been suspended until further notice.

“The University has since reported the incident to the Nigeria Police for necessary actions, while a few arrests have been made

“The University condemns in strong terms this dastardly act while sympathising with the parents/ guardians of the deceased.
While praying that the Lord Almighty console the family.

“Parents and students of the institution are enjoined to be calm as there is no cause for alarm. Students are to go about their business as the situation is under control.

“The University Management appreciates the swift action of the Nigerian Police which has put the campus in a calm situation.

“We remain resolute that TASUED has zero tolerance for cultistism, gangsterism, and other deviant acts.”
