A violent clash between rival cult groups, believed to be the Eiye and Alora confraternities, resulted in the death of an unidentified male adult in the Ondo road area of Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Saturday.

According to eyewitnesses, the victim was attacked by armed men on a motorcycle while purchasing an item along the road. He was shot in the head and died at the scene.

The incident sparked tension in the area, with residents fleeing in fear of being caught in the crossfire. Police were deployed to calm the situation and have launched an investigation into the matter.

The Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident and stated that a manhunt is underway to apprehend the suspects.

“There was a suspected cult clash along Ondo road. The victim was buying something along the road when he was attacked by some men who came on a motorcycle. They shot him in the head, which led to his death,”

“His body has been recovered and taken to a morgue in the state, and we have begun an investigation into the matter to arrest the perpetrators,”.

When asked about the ongoing efforts to address the cult violence, Opalola said, “We have beefed up security in the affected areas to prevent further escalation. We urge residents to remain calm and assist the police with any information that can lead to the arrest of the culprits.” Opalola added.
