A farmer has been killed, and six others abducted by suspected bandits in Garbatau, Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The slain farmer, identified as Alhaji Mai Wanda Maibultu, was reportedly killed on his farm over the weekend. He was a large-scale farmer in the village, located just a few kilometers from Garba Chede town.
The six kidnapped individuals were abducted along the Garbatau village, a farming community nestled between two mountains.
According to Adamu Dauda, a resident of Maihula town, the kidnappers have already contacted the families of the abducted farmers, demanding a ransom of N100 million. Dauda recalled that this time last year, a similar invasion occurred when hundreds of kidnappers seized numerous farmers, halting their crop harvests.
“The farmers were in the process of harvesting their crops, but the kidnappers stopped them, just as they did last year,” Dauda said.
The spokesperson for the Taraba State Police Command, SP Usman Abdullahi, did not respond to calls or messages regarding the incident.
