President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the restructuring of the State House media and communications team, reassigning key roles to enhance government communication.
This move re-designates the roles of Sunday Dare and Daniel Bwala, alongside Bayo Onanuga, as official spokespersons for the administration.
Sunday Dare, former Minister of Sports and Youth Development under the Muhammadu Buhari administration, was recently announced as the Presidential Special Adviser on Public Communication and National Orientation.
Similarly, Daniel Bwala, who served as a critic and spokesman for the opposition’s Atiku Abubakar campaign during the 2023 presidential elections, was unveiled last week as a member of the communications team.
In a statement issued Monday night, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirmed the new designations aimed at improving the efficiency of the Presidency’s communication framework.
Onanuga stated, “The President has approved the redesignation of the two officials within the State House media and communications team to enhance efficiency within the government’s communication machinery.”
According to the latest updates, Sunday Dare has transitioned from his initial role as Special Adviser on Public Communication and National Orientation to Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications.
Meanwhile, Daniel Bwala, who was previously announced as Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, is now designated Special Adviser on Policy Communication.
These appointments reflect a broader strategic shift in the Presidency’s communication approach.
Onanuga clarified, “There is no single individual spokesperson for the Presidency. Instead, all three Special Advisers will collectively serve as spokespersons for the government. This approach aims to ensure effective and consistent communication of government policies, decisions, and engagements.”
Bwala’s appointment last week sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians, particularly due to his previous criticism of Tinubu. The development has prompted public discourse, with some commentators questioning the inclusivity and diversity of the government’s team.
This restructuring underscores the administration’s commitment to maintaining a robust and coordinated communication strategy, leveraging the expertise of its newly appointed media team members.
