The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has distanced itself from alleged plans by certain groups to organize protests against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Earlier, the EFCC warned about a “shadowy group” allegedly planning to incite protests against the Commission. The group has reportedly been active on social media, attempting to recruit young Nigerians, including students, to oppose the EFCC.

In response, NANS President Lucky Emonefe, in a statement on Thursday, condemned the efforts by these “faceless groups” to exploit students for their own agendas.

“We strongly denounce the attempt to manipulate students by these shadowy groups to intimidate the EFCC and hinder its crucial mission of eliminating corruption in the country. Nigerian students and NANS fully support the EFCC’s mandate to fight economic and financial crimes.”

NANS also voiced concern over reports of students being targeted and recruited to undermine the EFCC’s efforts, which are essential for safeguarding the country’s reputation, prestige, and economic stability.

The association urged students to stay vigilant and resist being used as tools by corrupt individuals seeking to disrupt the progress being made by the EFCC.
