Student communicators set to hold Press Event

Student Communicators under the umbrella of Association of student Communicators, Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic chapter (ASCOM) will hold her annual press event from 9 to 12 of December, 2020. This year press event titled The Press: Speaking up, finding our muted voices will include workshop, health walk, talk shows and many other programs

This was disclosed to newsmen in a press conference held in Abusi Edumare, the annex campus of Abrham Adesanya Polytechnic (AAPOLY)

The President of the Association, Omotoyosi Damilare emphasized on the importance of the press event especially as it concerns Mass Communication students of the institution. According to him, the press event will draw students closer to the world of communication and the opportunities that lie in it.

“Mass Communication is dynamic, it has different parts and this press event will open students minds to different opportunities that is why we will be inviting veterans in communication for them to give us that last touching and equip us with what we should know as communicators” he said

Also reacting, the Association Staff Adviser, Mrs oluwatosin ogunlariwo said the event will be a marriage of town and gown as media professionals will be invited to impact students on what is trending in the field of Communication

“We are in an Academic environment but we will be inviting the public’s of Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic as well as professionals in the field of communication to come and impact us with what is trending in mass communication field so that by the time our students graduate, they will be fully entrenched into the field “

“We also want students to meet with potential employers. The press event will create a platform where our students can easily get IT opportunities in different media houses and that is what makes this year event unique” she said

The Head of Deapartment of Mass communication, Mrs Victoria Adebanjo enjoined all students to see this event as an opportunity to showcase their talents to the world as the management is in full support of the event. She posited that this year event will be a turning point for the department and also help students broaden their knowledge in Communication

“The management is in full support of this event and students should seize this opportunity to show their talents to the world. Our guests speakers will help broaden the knowledge of students in the field of communication as this will in return affect the department positively” she said

The institution student Ambassador who also is the pioneer president of Ascom, Fanika Olatunde, pleaded with the school management to support the department and create an enabling environment for mass communication students to operate as they have the potential and manpower to project the name of the institution in good light

“As much as the management wants to regulate a lot of things to ensure that everything is done properly, Mass Communication is so unique that you must ensure that the regulation is flexible. We have facilities, equipments and manpower”

“The management should support us always in other to make sure that mass communication students are really getting the freedom to explore their discipline which will later project the name of the institution in good light” Fanika said

The president assured students of tight security and encouraged students to be in attendance
