In a show of unity and determination, the Southern Governors’ Forum met in Ogun State on June 24, 2024, and pledged to work together to foster economic growth, security, and development in the region.
The governors, who had gathered to discuss pressing regional issues, reaffirmed their commitment to collaboration and cooperation.
They recognized the need for a united front in addressing the challenges facing the region and seizing opportunities for growth and development.
The forum’s resolutions and decisions reflected their dedication to improving the lives of citizens in the region.
They applauded the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project, advocated for improved power supply, and pledged support for the Energy Transition program.
The governors also resolved to intensify efforts in agriculture, promote intra-region trade and investment, and establish the Southern States Development Agenda (SSDA) to drive economic growth.
Their commitment to security was evident in their advocacy for fiscal federalism, devolution of powers, and the creation of state police.
They also expressed support for the position of the law and constitution on the tenure of Local Government Chairmen in Rivers State.
The meeting ended with a sense of purpose and unity, as the governors appointed Prince Dapo Abiodun CON as Chairman and Professor Charles Soludo CFR as Vice Chairman.
The forum agreed to hold quarterly meetings rotated among member states, ensuring continued collaboration and progress.
