The South-West chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, over his remarks regarding electoral plans in Osun and Oyo states. The PDP described Ganduje’s comments as inflammatory and urged President Bola Tinubu to caution him against making such statements.

Ganduje, speaking in Akure on Sunday after the victory of Ondo State Governor and APC candidate, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, said, “Our next target in the South-West geopolitical zone is Osun and Oyo states. You know we are good at hitting our targets. We will do whatever is necessary to bring them into the fold so that we can gain more political opportunity in the South-West.”

In reaction, the PDP South-West Executive Council, after a three-day meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State, expressed strong disapproval. The party issued a statement through its Zonal Publicity Secretary, Sanya Atofarati, in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, condemning Ganduje’s remarks as a threat to democracy.

“The PDP urges President Bola Tinubu to rein in the unwarranted threats made by APC National Chairman Ganduje to manipulate the electoral process in Ekiti, Osun, and Oyo states, using the APC’s trademark of rigging,” Atofarati said.

He further added, “We affirm, without equivocation, that Ganduje lacks the moral authority to speak on matters of credibility or democracy.”

The South-West PDP also criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over what it called the poor conduct of the Ondo governorship election. The party alleged flaws in the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and delays in the distribution of election materials, particularly in PDP strongholds.

Call for Investigation
The PDP called on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to investigate claims of misconduct by security personnel during the Ondo election. The party insisted that any individuals found guilty of malpractice should face prosecution.

“We call on the Inspector General of Police to uphold the integrity of his office by investigating these allegations and ensuring that those responsible face justice,” Atofarati stated.

Commendation for PDP Leaders
The party commended Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, and the PDP national leadership for their unwavering support during the Ondo election. It also reassured members of its commitment to legal avenues in addressing alleged electoral malpractices.

“As a party established by law, we will continue to work with our legal team while pursuing justice through the appropriate channels. We also urge our members to remain peaceful and committed to democratic principles,” Atofarati said.
