The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation, and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) has apprehended two suspects, Abdullahi Idowu and Samson Ojo, for theft in the Idiroko border area.
The arrests underscore the Corps’ dedication to ensuring that all crimes, regardless of their scale, are addressed.
In a statement issued by the State Commander, Dr. Soji Ganzallo, through the Director of Information and Public Relations, Assistant Commander Moruf Yusuf, it was revealed that the suspects, Abdullahi Idowu, 18, of Babaloke, Idiroko, and Samson Ojo, 17, of Etikoto, Ikolaje, Idiroko, were caught during a joint routine patrol by the Corps’ Special Squad and Idiroko Divisional Team, led by Chief Superintendent Abdulkareem Abdulrazaq.
The operation occurred around 10:30 p.m. on November 17, 2024, within Ipokia Local Government Area.
During the arrest, the suspects were found with two bags containing parts of a stolen generator engine. Commander Ganzallo disclosed that a preliminary investigation revealed Abdullahi Idowu to be an ex-convict who had previously served a jail term in the Benin Republic.
Under interrogation, Idowu confessed to stealing the generator parts from the Idiroko border area. He also admitted to stealing a large battery earlier, which he sold to a scrap dealer.
“The suspects were taken to the scene of the crime, where it was confirmed that the stolen items belonged to a customs office. Further search led to the discovery of additional generator parts hidden in a nearby bush,” the statement read.
Ganzallo confirmed that the suspects, along with the recovered items, have been handed over to the Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun Area 1 Command, Idiroko, for further investigation and prosecution.
