Officials from the Department of State Services (DSS) have reportedly seized control of the Abuja office belonging to the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), sparking widespread condemnation from the organization.
SERAP has described the occupation as illegal, sharing the development via their official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday.
According to SERAP, DSS officers have demanded to meet with the organization’s leadership, though the reason for this request remains unclear.
In response, SERAP has issued a direct appeal to President Bola Tinubu, calling for his intervention.
The group urged the president to immediately order the DSS to halt what they termed as “harassment, intimidation, and violation of the rights of Nigerians.”
This situation unfolds just a day after SERAP requested that President Tinubu take action to reverse the recent hike in fuel prices imposed by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), which the organization criticized as unconstitutional.
