Senator Solomon Adeola (APC, Ogun West), chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, has expressed his excitement over the major infrastructure projects spearheaded by Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.
Describing the initiatives as “palpable game changers” for the state’s economy, Senator Adeola highlighted their significance both in the present and in the near future.
The senator was particularly impressed by the recent groundbreaking ceremony for the Gateway Inland Dry Port (GIDP) in Papalanto, Ewekoro Local Government Area, which was attended by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola, alongside Governor Abiodun.
This project, Adeola said, is a “laudable initiative” with the potential to transform Ogun State’s economic landscape.
In a statement signed by Kayode Odunaro, Media Adviser to Senator Adeola, issued shortly afterwards a visit to the state capital, Abeokuta, Senator Adeola commended Governor Abiodun’s “vision and concrete actions” in driving sustainable economic growth and development for Ogun State. “The fruits of most of these projects will be reaped for many generations,” he stated.
“I am full of admiration for the mega projects that our governor is delivering in the state, particularly in the area of critical and appropriate infrastructures like roads, housing, and the biggest of them all, the Ogun State Agro-Cargo Airport at Ilishan-Remo, with ancillary development of an aviation business hub. The benefits of this project in the area of employment and socio-economic growth of the agricultural sector and commerce remain unquantifiable for now and the future,” the senator emphasized.
Senator Adeola also noted the immense job creation potential of the Gateway Inland Dry Port, estimating that the project could create 5,000 direct jobs and 15,000 indirect jobs when fully operational. “This laudable project, just like the Agro-Cargo Airport, is going to be a great revenue-earning avenue for Ogun State,” he said. He added that the eventual revenues from these infrastructure developments would significantly fund social amenities and welfare programs for Ogun State’s indigenes and residents.
In addition to praising the infrastructural advancements, Senator Adeola pledged his continued support for Governor Abiodun’s efforts, particularly in the area of workers’ welfare. The governor recently approved a N77,000 minimum wage for state workers, which Adeola commended as a step in the right direction.
“On my part, I will continue to support my governor and complement his projects with the facilitation and attraction of Federal Government projects to my senatorial district. I am sure that working with our governor will renew the hope of our people as well as deliver identifiable dividends of democracy going forward,” he concluded.
