The dream of establishing a Federal University of Technology in Ilaro, Ogun State, has taken a significant step forward as the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria passed the Bill for the second time.
The bill, titled “Federal University of Technology, Ilaro, Ogun State SB 345, 2024”, was sponsored by Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi, who represents Ogun West Senatorial District.
This development marks a renewed effort to upgrade the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, into a full-fledged university.
The Bill was initially passed by the 9th Senate but could not proceed to concurrence at the House of Representatives or receive presidential assent before the session ended.
With the 10th Senate, under the leadership of Senator Godswill Ufot Akpabio, reaffirming its commitment by passing the bill again, the proposal is now set to move to the House of Representatives for concurrence.
Following that, it will be presented to the President for assent, making the dream of establishing the university a reality.
Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi has been unwavering in his dedication to advancing education in Ogun West. His contributions towards educational development in the region include facilitating scholarship and bursary schemes, upgrading school infrastructure, and providing high-level information technology training for the youth in his constituency.
Chief Kayode Odunaro, Media Adviser to Senator Adeola, confirmed the news in a statement dated October 8, 2024. “The bill for the establishment of the University of Technology in Ilaro, Ogun State, that has now been passed for the second time by the Senate looks promising to complete all the necessary processes,” Odunaro stated.
