The Senate has unanimously agreed to rename one of its committee rooms in honor of the late Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Lekan Balogun.
Oba Lekan Balogun, who passed away on March 14, 2023, at the age of 81, after a brief illness, served as a Senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District from 1999 to 2003.
Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Ali, who sponsored the motion, described the late monarch as a leader, community developer, and exemplary politician known for his commitment to peace and preservation of Yoruba culture.
Senators Yinus Akintunde and Abdulfatai Buhari, representing Oyo Central and North respectively, highlighted the positive impact of the late Olubadan on their lives and careers, with Senator Buhari acknowledging the guidance he received from the late monarch’s book, “Arrogance of Power”.
The Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, also praised the virtues of the late monarch during the debate.
Following discussions, the Senate agreed to immortalize the late Olubadan by renaming a committee room after him and observed a minute of silence in his honor.
Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, urged Senator Abdulfatai Buhari to distribute copies of “Arrogance of Power” to all Senators for guidance.
