Lagos, Nigeria – In anticipation of a nationwide protest against hardship and hunger, security operatives have been stationed at the Lekki Toll Plaza in Lagos State.
The protest aims to pressure the President Bola Tinubu administration to reverse policies contributing to the current economic struggles.
A heavy security presence was visible at the Lekki Tollgate, a known gathering point for protesters. Armed policemen and soldiers were strategically positioned to prevent a repeat of the violent clashes that occurred during the #EndSARS protest on October 20, 2020.
As of 8 am, no protesters had arrived at the Lekki Tollgate, only journalists reporting on the scene. A court order earlier confined the #EndBadGovernance protesters to Freedom Park in Ojota, suggesting that street protests would not be tolerated.
Tensions remain high after unknown individuals warned Lagos residents of dire consequences if they participated in the protest against the Tinubu administration.
The situation remains tense, with security forces on high alert.
